What is Executive Functioning?

Executive functions are a set of cognitive processes that play a crucial role in managing and controlling various mental activities, including decision-making, problem-solving, planning, organizing, working memory, cognitive flexibility and goal setting. These functions are responsible for higher-order thinking and are essential for the effective execution of complex tasks and the regulation of behavior.

Executive Functions and College Age Students

Having an EF coach is one way to provide the extra support some college students need to find success during this important period of their life.

Although college can present all students with challenges, those who struggle with learning hurdles such as ADHD, specific learning disabilities, and Executive Functioning deficits, may experience a special set of obstacles.

Executive functioning skills, such as time management, organization, and working memory, are integral to a student's capacity to navigate the demands of college life. When these skills are compromised, students may find themselves grappling with mounting pressures, looming deadlines, and the constant juggle of academic and personal responsibilities. 

College is a tremendous investment in money, time and effort. Being prepared and having a support system in place can make every student’s college experience a positive one.

Mindful Solutions is here to help alleviate the stress and anxiety that comes from worrying about a child who struggles to maintain the academic level they are capable of. By providing personalized coaching sessions with an experienced educator and academic coach, we help to bridge the gap between learning habits and academic success. These one-on-one sessions guide students to become more organized, thoughtful in their time managment, and self-aware of their own learning behavior. Our goal is to help all students become self-confident learners.

We provide:

  • individualized Action Plans that focus on areas of concern

  • teaching organizational tools and strategies to reach weekly, monthly and semester goals and tasks

  • consistent and thoughtful check-ins with students to help them stay on track

  • scientifically proven approaches that teach students to utilize their strengths and unique learning style to meet individual goals

Our Services

  • Virtual EF Coaching for College Students

    Weekly one hour sessions plus check-ins thoughout the week. The sessions will include discussions about upcoming tasks and goals for the week. The student and coach will plan strategies and discuss tools to help execute the plan.We understand each student is unique, therefore, the exact topics addressed in the sessions will be designed based on student needs.

  • Virtual EF Coaching for High School and Middle School students

    One 45 minute virtual coaching session a week, plus one 15 minute check-in during the week. The schedule, frequency and skills addressed will be determined by student needs and age. The focus will be on developing skills to improve overall school performance and independent learning strategies.

  • Virtual EF Coaching for Adults

    One hour virtual session with EF coach weekly or bi-weekly with 1-2 check-ins between sessions.

    Sessions are designed to help you set goals, formulate plans and provide the support and tools to execute these plans effectively.

  • Specialized Academic Tutoring

    1 hour or 2 thirty minute sessions focused on specific areas of academic struggle, including reading, math and writing. Each session is with an experienced, certified educator who will focus on a student’s individual needs. We have learning specialists trained in Orton-Gillingham and Linda Mood Bell reading approaches which are used with students who have a diagnosed reading disability.
